Living Remotely
I’d like to phone a friend
Earlier this year, I quit my job to move abroad and immerse myself in Spanish and Japanese. Then COVID happened. Over the past year, I’ve watched as people have adapted to working, socializing, learning, and even attending events remotely. My frustration turned to curiosity, as I began to wonder: What would it look like if someone were to try and live remotely?
My head started racing with ideas about how this absurd concept might actually be more possible than ever before as a result of COVID.
So over the course of the next week (12/28/20 - 1/2/21), I’ll be virtually immersing myself in Japan and Mexico. I’m flipping my sleep cycle to be on Japan time. I’ll be attending online tours, events, and workshops.
I’m asking for your help in putting me in touch with Japanese/Spanish speakers. It’s essential that I’m not only consuming culture but that I’m working to become more fluent in them. If you or a friend might be interested in sitting down with me for 30 minutes of Spanish/Japanese, I’d greatly appreciate it if you could share this link to schedule some time.
I have no idea how this will turn out but I’m excited to share the results with you next month.
